, NAIROBI, Kenya, Dec 6 – Ford-Kenya Assistant Secretary General Yasser Ali Sheikh is in court to challenge the EALA list of nominees forwarded to the National Assembly for approval by NASA.
Sheikh is aggrieved by the list forwarded to the Clerk of the National Assembly as it bears no nominee from the political party.
He argues he is aggrieved because among other things his name was excluded from the list of nominees and the party left out of consultations to lobby for its preferred candidate.
He has faulted the Opposition alliance for failing to take into consideration the inclusion of a member from Ford -K as one of its coalition partners.
This, he says, amounts to a heinous act of impunity on the part of organs of the coalition.
It is his argument that the whole process of nomination adopted by NASA is incurably and fatally flawed.
He now wants NASA compelled to produce original written records of the proceedings during which the decision to nominate candidates was arrived at.
Also sought is an order stopping the National Assembly from recognising any names forwarded by NASA as nominees to EALA.
“The list was arrived at without consulting or involving Ford-K an equal coalition partner and constituent party in the final decision making process,” reads the petition.
He says the opposition should be free from bias and above reproach with regard to the nomination of candidates to EALA which is the premier legislative organ of the East African Community.
Raila’s brother Oburu Odinga and Kalonzo Musyoka’s son Kennedy, coalition’s Chief Executive Officer Norman Magaya, Fatuma Ibrahim, Winfred Mutua among others have been nominated by NASA to EALA posts.
