EX Kamukunji MP Simon Mbugua, Kalonzo’s son Kennedy lead in Senate EALA poll

NAIROBI, Kenya Dec 14 –  Jubilee’s East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) nominee Simon Mbugua and National Super Alliance (NASA) co-principal son Kalonzo Musyoka son; Kennedy have topped in the Senate election that saw 61 Senators cast their vote.

The former Kamukunji Member of Parliament Mbugua managed to garner 51 votes while Kennedy got 55 votes.

Jubilee is supposed to forward five of its elected nominees to the Arusha-based regional assembly while their counterpart NASA are to fill four slots of Kenya’s nine representation.

Jubilee’s other four nominees who were elected in Senate include: Florence Jematiah (Baringo) who got 50 votes, former MP Mpuri Aburi (Tigania East) garnered 40 votes, former Constitution and Implementation Commission Chairperson Charles Nyacahe got 37 votes and finally the former Mandera North MP Adan Mohammed Nooru closed the list with 30 votes.

On the NASA’s side, the second on the list was former Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s elder brother Oburu Oginga who garnered 48 votes followed by former Balambala MP Abdikar Aden with 32 votes and former Wajir Woman Representative Fatuma Ibrahim who got 29 votes.

Counting of votes is underway in the National Assembly whose results will be combined with those of Senate to arrive at the winners to EALA.

The nine EALA members are expected to be sworn into office on Monday in Tanzania.
