, KISUMU, Kenya, Dec 18 – A Homa-Bay court has ordered a recount of votes in 53 polling stations in Nyatike constituency in Migori County following the August 8 General Election.

The order was issue by Justice Joseph Karanja who is presiding over the election petition filed by Fredrick Odiso (Independent) challenging the victory of Tom Odege of ODM.

Karanja agreed with the lawyers for all parties in the petition that a report of the recount shall form basis for the direction the court shall take in its judgment.

Odiso has asked the court to nullify Odege’s election victory over claims of rigging.

The petitioner’s lawyer Steve Biko argues the vote recount in the polling centres shall reveal answers to queries raised in the case to determine who won the Nyatike parliamentary seat.

Odege’s lawyer Kennedy Okong’o on his part expressed satisfaction that the recount of votes will speed up the hearing of the petitioner’s case.
