Sifuna notifies police of NASA plan to hold demos Friday in Nairobi

Protestors hold up placards during a previous NASA demonstration/CFM

NAIROBI, Kenya, Nov 9 – The National Super Alliance is expected to embark on demonstrations on Friday in an effort to press for another fresh presidential election, under revised terms.

Through a letter written by the advocate Edwin Sifuna, the Coalition has informed Nairobi County Commander Japheth Koome of their intent.

They say the procession will be peaceful and will take place in Nairobi County as part of its quest for electoral justice.

In the letter, Sifuna has asked police to provide them with security and not stand in the protestors’ way.

“You are hereby notified of the same and requested to provide security during the said procession/demonstration to ensure criminal elements do not take advantage to harm protestors, the public or any property.”

Last month, Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiangi placed a ban on demonstrations within the Central Business Districts of Nairobi, Mombasa and Kisumu.

This was in response to the theft and destruction of property that took place during previous NASA protests.

The High Court however later found Matiangi’s restrictions illegal.
