NAIROBI, Kenya, Nov 20 – Police are investigating a robbery at a Kenya Commercial Bank branch in Thika where Sh50 million was stolen Sunday night.

Police say the burglars accessed the bank through an underground tunnel which was discovered Monday morning.

According to a bank manager who reported the incident to police, the robbery was detected when they opened and found the strong room broken into.

“We wish to assure all our customers that their funds are safe and there is no cause for alarm,” read a statement from the bank.

“Customers seeking to transact can do so at any other KCB branch or access services through our mobile and internet banking platforms.”

No suspect has been arrested.

According to police, “They broke into two safes and are believed to have used oxy-acetylene flame to drill holes into the safes.”
