NAIROBI, Kenya, Nov 7 – Leaders from across the political divide have mourned the death of Nyeri Governor Wahome Gakuru in a grisly road accident on the Thika-Murang’a Highway.
Devolution Cabinet Secretary Mwangi Kiunjuri and Council of Governors Chairman Josphat Nanok sent this condolence message to the his family and the people of Nyeri County
“It is with a heavy heart that we confirm the death of H.E Wahome Gakuru this morning while receiving treatment,” the Governors’ lobby tweeted
Education CS Fred Matiangi said he received the news of the demise with great shock and sadness.

West Pokot Governor John Lonyangapuo, Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho and Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru also took to social media to mourn their counterpart’s death.

Industrialist Chris Kirubi also mourned the fallen governor and added that his thoughts and prayers are with the family, friends and entire Nyeri County.

Gakuru, 51, was reportedly travelling to Nairobi for a morning talk show when his vehicle was involved in a road accident near Kabati on the Thika-Murang’a highway.
Senate Speaker Ken Lusaka led Senators including Mutula Kilonzo in expressing shock at the demise of the county chief, referring to him as a respected leader, dedicated to the service of the nation.
