, NAIROBI, Kenya, Nov 26 – Sixteen legislators from the Mount Kenya region have voiced their support for Devolution Cabinet Secretary Mwangi Kiunjuri, a few days after Nyeri Senator Emphraim Maina called for his exclusion at the new cabinet.

Speaking during a press briefing, the MPs led by Laikipia West Patrick Mariru said Maina was speaking for himself and was not representing the region.

Maina had claimed that the political leadership in the region had ganged up to reject Kiunjuri’s reappointment.

“We want to categorically state that Maina is speaking for himself and not for the Mount Kenya Region. He is on his own,” Mariru said.

He also called out to Maina saying he should be focused on healing his county following the death of its governor and should not be focusing on divisive politics.

“The region is keen and focused on politics of development and not politics of hate, witch-hunt and retrogression.”

President Uhuru Kenyatta is expected to announce his new cabinet in due course, after he is sworn in for a fresh term on Tuesday.
