Lake Nakuru crash victim’s personal effects salvaged in recovery effort

NAKURU, Kenya, Nov 4 – Clothes and personal identification documents of one of the Lake Nakuru chopper accident victims were recovered Saturday.

Divers who have been searching the waters for the past 14 days also recovered the victim’s wallet and his hotel room keys.

Head of the multi-agency team, National Disaster Operation, Desk Officer Jonatahan Kertich said the wallet was intact complete with cash inside.

Among the clothes recovered were a Jubilee Party shirt and jacket, shoes and a pair of trousers.

The items were found close the shores on the North Eastern side of the Lake.

The chopper crashed in the Lake on October 21 as the pilot went to fuel it at the Naishi Airstrip within Lake Nakuru National Park.

All the five occupants among them three bloggers attached to Nakuru Senator Susan Kihika, the pilot and a lady friend perished.

The recovery team has managed to recover two bodies since the search begun 14 days ago.

The team also recovered debris of the chopper, a First Aid bag, a cooling box and the captain’s bag.

Kertich said the latest find had reawakened hopes of finding the missing three victims and chopper wreckage.

The two whose bodies were found were buried at Eldama Ravine in Baringo and Bondo in Siaya.
