, MOMBASA, Kenya, Nov 13 – Police have obtained crucial leads on the murder of an Asian man who was kidnapped on Saturday at gunpoint in Mombasa and later found killed with his body dumped by the roadside.

Mombasa CID boss Jacob Kanake says the kidnappers demandeda Sh2 million ransom from the family for his release.

Three hundred thousand shillings of which, Kanake told reporters at the scene, the family had already sent to the kidnappers, “but they went ahead and brutally murdered the middle-aged man identified as Moiz Esmail .”

He was abducted as he exited a mosque in the Old Town area of Mombasa at around 5pm on Saturday.

The police say the man identified as Moiz Esmailjee Ebrahimjee was strangled by the kidnappers suspected to be part of a cartel operating from Malindi Main Prison.

His body was moved to Pandya private hospital for autopsy.
