Cop accused of ‘protecting’ suspect lynched in Siaya

NAIROBI, Kenya, Nov 14 – A police officer based at Kogelo Police Station was on Monday killed by boda-boda operators in Barkowino area in Siaya County.

The officer was forcefully ejected from a Public Service Vehicle by the rowdy youths who accused him of protecting a suspect.

According to a police report seen by Capital FM News, the officer had earlier been seen with the suspect, Caleb Omoro, who the boda-boda operators wanted to lynch for allegedly stealing a motorbike from one of their counterparts mid this year.

But unknown to the youths, the officer, in the company of his colleague was tracking another burglary suspect, who was Omoro’s accomplice.

“He had come to Bondo in company of PC Rodgers Nalianya of Kogelo Police Station and later joined PC Kimutai Ngeno of Bondo Police Station to arrest an accomplice in his case of burglary and stealing before Siaya Law Courts coming up for hearing on November 14, 2017,” reads the police report.

“The said vehicle whose registration number is not known left him where he was subjected to mob injustice. Police officers rushed to the scene upon receiving information from a member of public and rushed him to Bondo County Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.”
