, NAIROBI, Kenya, Nov 30 – The clerks of both the National Assembly and Senate will on Thursday receive the lists of East African Legislative Assembly (EALA)nominees from political parties.
A statement from Parliament stated that both of them will be sitting as Presiding Officers at County Hall from 9.00am to 4.00pm.
Candidates who were being considered for the position after being interviewed in May are also expected to apply afresh.
Those who desire to serve in the EALA as independent candidates will also be submitting their nomination papers on the same day at County Hall’s mini chamber.
According to EALA Nomination Regulations, the Jubilee Party will get six slots of the nine available slots because it has more members elected to the 12th Parliament.
Kenya’s failure to give her nominees has stalled operation in the regional assembly after Jubilee turned down the list of four presented by NASA, saying the rules required that they bring 12 names from where the House approves three.
EALA was to kick off business on June 4 after the swearing-in of member states from the other five members countries because of a rule in bloc’s treaty which requires all member states to have at least three of their representatives in the EALA for business to begin.
Suna East MP and ODM’s Director of Elections Junet Mohammed insisted the NASA Coalition will submit the names of former Bondo MP Oburu Odinga and the former Vice-President’s son Kennedy Musyoka.
