Student shot dead during Kisumu NASA protests

, KISUMU, Kenya, Oct 16 – A student was shot dead by the police in Manyatta Estate in Kisumu as police officers were battling demonstrators.

Michael Okoth, an 18-year-old student at Vihiga Boys High School was shot as he stepped out from their house to buy ice cream.

According to his mother Caroline Okello, her son who was preparing to sit his Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCPE) exam but was sent home for fee arrears of Sh10,000.

The deceased was hit by a bullet on his neck killing him on the spot.

The witness says he was shot on a close range by the officers before they used a machete to remove the lodged bullet.

The body was later taken to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital Mortuary.
