NAIROBI, Kenya Oct 22 – Police on Sunday morning shot and killed the son of a tycoon who owns Bobmill Mattresses during a police operation at their home in Nairobi’s Westlands area.
The shooting occurred at 3 am when officers from a specialized unit in the police raided the home to conduct an unspecified search.
The family identified the deceased as Bunty Shah, 32 the son of the owner of the giant Bobmil Industries Vipin Shah.
He was shot once on the chest at his bedroom’s window by officers who raided the home located at the junction of Peponi and General Mathenge roads. The officers drove in armoured vehicles.
A guard who was injured the officers allegedly banged the main gate on him is also hospitalised.
It is the noise during the raid that woke up Bunty, who is said to have peeped through window only to be shot by one of the officers, and was rushed to MP Shah where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
“He was not resisting, he just heard the commotion and woke up to find out what was happening. That is when he was shot,” his uncle Kiru Shah told journalists at the home.

Bunty was at home with his wife, his six months old boy, his mother and grandmother when the raid was staged by heavily armed officers.
And when they realized they had shot someone, they all fled.
There has been no statement from the police over the matter, but Gigiri Police chief Vitalis Otieno, in whose jurisdiction Westlands falls, has confirmed the incident but says he is too yet to get facts of the shooting.
“We are investigating the fatal shooting that occurred at the home and will give a report once we are done,” he said.
The businessman’s son was pronounced dead at the MP Shah Hospital where he was rushed for emergency treatment soon after the shooting that has shocked many people—particularly members of the Asian business community.
His father died 12 years ago leaving Bunty as the only son and his widow to run the multi billion mattresses business located on Mombasa road.
