NAIROBI, Kenya, Oct 17 – The saga surrounding businessman Jimi Wanjigi continues to escalate after police got a warrant to not only search his Muthaiga residence but two other business premises within Nairobi.
The others include Kwacha House along General Mathenge Drive and Caramel Restaurant and Lounge on Waiyaki Way.
Already, a contingent of police officers has been deployed to all the premises ahead of a massive search.
According to the search warrant, police are looking for firearms, ammunition or any other document that can support their concerns following the recovery of four AK-47 rifles at a villa in Malindi, suspected to be his.
The court has allowed detectives to raid the premises owned by the billionaire associated to NASA, “to enable the investigating officer and any other police officer to open, search, have access, seize, remove and carry away firearms, ammunitions, explosives, documents related to usage of firearms, ammunitions and explosives or any other evidential material related to commission of the suspected offense.”
“He is inside here,” a senior detective privy to the probe told Capital FM News.
Family members are yet to speak out though NASA leaders claim his whereabouts remain unknown.
A detective was seen leaving the premises with some two briefcases.
Videos emanating from the house showed police using sledge hammers trying to break into unknown sections of the expansive house.
Head of flying squad Kiprotich Saidi says “we want to talk to him.”
According to Siaya Senator James Orengo the businessman is being victimized for his links with NASA leader Raila Odinga.
Armed General Service Unit officers have taken over the Muthaiga compound.
Some were manning the gate while another group is strategically positioned within the expansive compound.
