Matiangi declares Oct 26 a public holiday in anticipation of poll

, NAIROBI, Kenya, Oct 19 – The government has declared Thursday next week as a public holiday to enable Kenyans participate in the repeat Presidential election.

Through a gazette notice, Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiangi said Kenyans should undertake the exercise peacefully.

The declaration comes amid calls for dialogue between President Uhuru Kenyatta and NASA leader Raila Odinga to alleviate the political tension in the country.
