, NAIROBI, Kenya, Oct 23 – The Israeli government has donated reading materials and Sh2 million to Moi Girls High School, Nairobi.
Speaking during the issuance of the donation on Monday, Israeli Ambassador to Kenya Noah Gendler said the donation was a gesture towards elevating the spirits of the students following an arson attack that claimed nine lives early last month.
“Tragedy takes from an individual all the abilities that are hidden within them. What happened at the school last month is very sad but it should not influence the future of the girls,” he said.
On September 2 the country woke up to the horror of a fire incident in one of the dormitories at the school in which eight girls died on the spot while a ninth succumbed to her injuries sustained in the fire in hospital the following day.
Gendler pointed out that the donation was a token of partnership between the embassy and the school and gave assurances of more support if need be.
“We will continue to work closely with the school and provide necessary assistance to the school,” said Gendler.
Speaking at the same forum, the school Principal Jael Mureithi said the donation was a powerful encouragement to the girls following the fire incident that shattered the confidence and the lives of the students left behind.
“This donation from the Israeli government is very crucial especially from the time of the fire incident, it is a great encouragement to the girls and we are very grateful,” said Mureithi.
