Governors induction retreat to Mombasa postponed

, NAIROBI, Kenya, Oct 2 – A planned retreat for governors and their deputies that was set to take place from Monday has been postponed indefinitely.

Council of Governors Director of Communications Andrew Teyie told Capital FM News that “consultations between the partners are still ongoing before new dates and agenda are set.”

Governors and their deputies were expected to retreat to Mombasa for induction at a conference aimed at strengthening devolution.

The conference was meant to orient the 25 newly elected governors and their deputies on how to run the devolved system, as well as assess the successes and failures of the pioneer regional governments.

Under the theme “Better Governance and Accountability for ultimate devolution dividends to all Kenyans”, the induction was to explore key areas that will aid in the smooth management of county operations.

These included public service delivery, intergovernmental relations structures and practices, public finance management and leadership and integrity among others.

Thereafter, the Council of Governors was to hold a council meeting to resolve pending issues key among them elections and representation in the technical committees.
