NAIROBI, Kenya, Oct 5 – Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Chief Executive Officer Ezra Chiloba has told a parliamentary committee looking into the supplementary budget that IEBC needs an additional Sh3.7 billion to the Sh10 billion allocation for the October 26 fresh presidential poll.
Chiloba explained that the additional funds are meant to cater for the KIEMS upgrade and additional wages to be paid to over 300,000 polling clerks who will be hired.
The committee led by Kipkelion East MP Joseph Limo said they would only recommend an additional Sh2 billion, making a total of Sh12 billion.
Chiloba also assured the House team that election infrastructure will be in place by the election date but cast doubts whether the political class is ready for the exercise.
