Stop Kalonzo? For what, asks Immigration chief

Immigration Services Director Gordon Kihalangwa says at no time was the Wiper leader asked to produce clearance because he is simply not a government official/FILE

NAIROBI, Kenya, Sep 29 – The Immigration Department has dismissed claims that Raila Odinga’s running mate Kalonzo Musyoka was stopped at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport while travelling to Uganda and asked to produce clearance.

Immigration Services Director Gordon Kihalangwa says at no time was the Wiper leader asked to produce clearance because he is simply not a government official.

Musyoka was accompanied by his co-principal Senator Moses Wetangula.

“The two were not at any point stopped by immigration officers,” Kihalangwa said in a statement.

The claims were made on Thursday by Odinga who accused the government of resorting to intimidate Opposition leaders, a claim that has been dismissed as propaganda.

Kihalangwa says only senior government officials are required to provide clearance when travelling out of the country.

“As expected, the immigration officer would check the systems and they were checked accordingly,” he said.

He said the two departed at around 11.05pm to Entebbe without a hitch.

“I am therefore perturbed with the claims by Hon. Raila Odinga to the media that Hon. Kalonzo Musyoka was stopped. These are false claims,” he asserted.
