, NAIROBI, Kenya Sept 19 – A section of MPs in the NASA Coalition say the sharing of the House Leadership post will require ‘a delicate balance’ after some legislators demanded their regions and affiliate parties should be awarded a seat.

This comes after sharp divisions emerged in the Minority Coalition over its list of nominees for parliamentary leadership with its leader Raila Odinga explaining that the matter had not been fully addressed by the affiliate parties.

Kiminini MP Chris Wamalwa who has been proposed for the Deputy Whip seat called for calm as the Parliamentary Group will soon meet to consider regional balance and party representation in the distribution of positions.

“Some positions have to be negotiated and discussed. As I said nobody has an entitlement to NASA. This is a Coalition of other political parties and obviously there must be that delicate balancing so that it’s a win-win; but if one wants to win and others loses obviously they will go into mediation,” he said.

Mavoko MP Patrick Makau agreed with the proposal of Kathiani MP Robert Mbui to the post of Minority Whip adding they will not accept anything less.

“It was agreed that Leadership of the Minority in the House will come from ODM, his deputy will come from ANC. The Minority Whip is to come from Wiper and his Deputy was proposed for FORD-Kenya; because as you now, NASA is comprised of four parties and we were trying to be fair,” he stated.

11 Coast MPs led by Msambweni legislator Suleiman Dori on Monday threatened to lead a mass exodus of their leaders from the Coalition because it had sidelined the region.

NASA Secretariat has disowned the list of opposition leadership in the National Assembly made public by ODM Chairman John Mbadi, as he declared himself the Leader of Minority in the House during an induction workshop for MPs in Nairobi.

Mbadi said the NASA leadership and the Parliamentary Group had approved his nomination and that of Lugari MP Ayub Savula as his deputy while Robert Mbui (Kathiani) and Chris Wamalwa (Kiminini) were named as Minority Whip and Deputy Minority Whip respectively.
