Fire set to Homa Bay county offices after visit by EACC detectives

The aftermath of the fire/OJWANG JOE

NAIROBI, Kenya, Sep 8 – A section of the office of Homa Bay Governor Cyprian Awiti was Thursday evening burnt down and property of unknown value destroyed.

Witnesses say three people suspected to have caused the incident drove into the compound at 11.30 pm and parked the vehicle at the gate before sneaking in to the compound carrying a jerrican of petrol.

They stated that they headed straight to the offices of procurement and finance and lit fire there before speeding off.

The vehicle lost control at the junction near the stadium and two people managed to escape while one was arrested by the motorcyclists who were following them.

Homa Bay OCPD Esau Ochorokodi confirmed that they are detaining the suspect who is expected to help them in conducting investigation.

The incident came two days after Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) officers came and raided the department of payroll, human resource and finance office.

Offices that have been burnt include the office of finance, auditor and accountant office as well, while the fire in the governor’s office was contained by fire fighters.
