NAIROBI, Kenya Aug 8 – As the voting process got underway in different parts of the country, the exercise in Embakasi at Greenspan Mall started four hours late.
Voters who spoke to Capital FM News expressed disappointment with the way the electoral officials were handling the situation with some vowing not to engage in future election exercises.
“If I can sacrifice my sleep to come and vote and yet I find that the officials are not prepared, I am contemplating not to participate in any future elections; it is just so wrong,” said a voter only identified as John.
Another said: “I was here by three in the morning waiting for the polling station to be opened at 6am. Some minutes to six the officials were nowhere to be seen and when they finally arrived they told us that they were waiting for tents and tables.”
A female voter who was also waiting in the queue to cast her vote was determined that she will wait as long as it takes and make her vote count.
“The officials are telling us that they did not have tents and tables but all the same I will wait until they bring those tents and tables so that I can cast my vote,” she said.

The voting exercise that started at 6am in the morning in most of the polling stations countrywide was expected to come to a close at 5pm in the evening paving way for counting and tallying of the results.
