Several arrested in Nyahururu, Nanyuki over voter bribery

NYAHURURU, Kenya, Aug 8 – Scores of people were arrested Tuesday within Nyahururu and Nanyuki towns on claims of vote bribery.

In Nyahururu, three people were arrested at the county hall where they were allegedly dishing out cash.

Police moved in and arrested the trio who were driving in three vehicles.

In Nanyuki, several people were arrested within the town and locked up.

No other ugly incidents were reported with candidates for various seats calling for peace as people awaited the outcome.

Governor Joshua Irungu who voted at GG Kinamba Secondary school called on residents to be calm as the results were being tallied.

He called on those who will lose in the elections to accept the results and move on.

His challenger Ndiritu Muriithi who voted at Shemanei primary school urged his supporters to also be calm as they awaited the outcome.

In Nyandarua County, gubernatorial candidate Francis Kimemia voted at Nyandundo Primary School where he also urged his supporters to remain calm.

No ugly incidents were reported in the county.
