President Kenyatta departs for Rwanda to celebrate Kagame’s re-election

NAIROBI, Kenya, Aug 18 – President Uhuru Kenyatta on Friday morning travelled to Kigali, Rwanda, to attend the inauguration ceremony of President Paul Kagame.

The President who is accompanied by First Lady Margaret Kenyatta departed Jomo Kenyatta International Airport shortly before 9am.

Acting Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiangi and Chief of Defence Forces, General Samson Mwathethe led other senior government officials in seeing the Head of State off.

President Kagame was re-elected for a third term with over 99 per cent of the votes cast in elections held on August 4.

President Kenyatta is attending the inauguration ceremony to show Kenya’s solidarity with the people of Rwanda, and their government.

In his congratulatory message, President Kenyatta said the re-election of President Kagame renews friendship and alliance between the two countries and that he looks forward to working together on matters of regional security, regional integration, and infrastructure.
