NAIROBI, Kenya, Aug 8 – Results for the presidential election are trickling in from 40,883 polling stations across the country, following the closure of polling centres at 5pm on Tuesday.
Already, the two main candidates are in the lead in results reported from close to 27,000 centres, six hours after voting closed.
From 26,279 polling stations across the country, President Uhuru Kenyatta was leading with 5,447,235 votes, his rival Raila Odinga following with 4,340,806 votes.
At the time, there were 10,114,979 votes cast, 1,938 disputed and 247051 rejected votes.
The voter turnout stood at 51.57 per cent of the 19,611,423 registered voters at press time.
