Ukambani leaders condemn circulation of ‘Raila 10 years’ leaflets

The more than 5000 leaflets were circulated in Machakos, Kitui and Makueni.

NAIROBI, Kenya July 30 – NASA leaders in Ukambani have condemned the circulation of leaflets in the region on Saturday night, alluding that Raila Odinga will rule for 10 years if he wins in next week’s elections.

The more than 5000 leaflets were circulated at bus stops, markets, residential areas and other public places, and were the main subject of discussion in Machakos, Makueni and Kitui where they were circulated.

Machakos Senator Johnson Muthama accused their competitors in Jubilee, saying it is a scheme meant to cause confusion and divide Kamba vote.

“They are clearly trying to tilt the vote and incite the Kambas that Raila is going to be in leadership for ten years. I want to assure the Kamba community, Kenyans and those supporting NASA that there is nothing like that,” Muthama told Capital FM News on telephone.

He claimed that some local MPs sympathetic to the Jubilee Party are behind the circulation of the leaflets.
Machakos Gubernatorial candidate Wavinya Ndeti also pointed an accusing finger at their Jubilee opponents, saying they are behind the scheme.

“Our opponents are going rounds circulating leaflets in Machakos, Kitui and Makueni saying those Raila 10 years Kalonzo 10 years we want to tell them that in Ukambani we are one and we will not be divided,” she said.

The leaflets were circulated, three days after an aborted demonstration in Kisumu where NASA0-branded tshirts with the same message were set ablaze.

The leaflets were circulated on a day President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto were expected to address a major rally in Machakos County, largely seen as an opposition stronghold.
