NAIROBI, Kenya, Jul 24 – The Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) has launched an investigation into the weekend shooting of a female reveller where a police officer has been accused of shooting a female reveller outside the Kenya International Convention Centre.

The woman was leaving KICC after attending Wizkid’s concert, when the incident which was captured on video occurred.

“This police officer just shot an innocent woman. We want his to go to the police station and record a statement. These are the guys that kill innocent people,” a man who recorded the video was heard saying.

IPOA Head of Communication Dennis Oketch says they want to establish the circumstances that led to the shooting saying if the officer will be found culpable, they will recommend charges.

“We want to know the truth. Our team is already engaging a number of people,” he told Capital FM News.

According to a police report, the gun discharged after the driver of the vehicle grabbed the rifle by the muzzle and extended his hand to the trigger and as a result, the firearm discharged a bullet that hit the lady.

The officer had allegedly approached the driver with intentions of asking him to clear the road when a confrontation ensued.

Meanwhile, IPOA has urged people who may have witnessed the incident to provide information.
