IEBC case against fresh tender for presidential ballots set for Friday

Kihara has directed that the matter be heard before a five-judge bench and set stringent time limits for the filing and service of the written submissions/FILE

NAIROBI, Kenya, Jul 12 – The Court of Appeal President Paul Kihara Kariuki has set hearing of the appeal by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission’s against tendering afresh printing of presidential ballots for Friday.

Kihara has directed that the matter be heard before a five-judge bench and set stringent time limits for the filing and service of the written submissions, given the enormous public interest in the matter and fast approaching election date.

He has also received notification from the National Super Alliance that they will be filing their own cross appeal on the matter.

On Friday last week, the High Court quashed the tender awarded to Al Ghurair for the printing of the presidential ballots on the grounds that there was no public participation.

It is however the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission’s position that there is simply no time to re-tender.
