NAIROBI, Kenya, Jun 13 – A 42-year-old woman will now serve a life sentence after the High Court found her guilty of killing her husband.
Jane Nambuye Manyonge was convicted by Justice Stella Mutuku on the charge of murder which occurred in late 2013 at Riruta, Nairobi.
The convict was accused of killing Francis Manyonge.
The judge ruled that the prosecution had proven the case against Nambuye, “beyond reasonable doubt that indeed she is one who murdered her husband.”
The court said upon hearing all the evidence adduced by the prosecution witnesses, she declined mitigation as required by the law but declined and left the court to make its final finding.
The judge further noted that the court may before sentence receive such evidence, “as it thinks fit in order to confirm itself as to the proper sentence to be passed.”
Justice Mutuku said that mitigation is part of a fair trial.
The convict has 14 days to appeal against the sentence.
