, MAKUENI, Kenya, Jun 26 – Property worth millions of shillings was destroyed on Monday morning after a fire engulfed a dormitory at HGM Vitale boarding primary in Kathonzweni, Makueni county.

The fire was reported to have started around 4am when the pupils were out for morning preps.

School principal David Muthike says there is no pupil who was injured in the morning incident.

According to Muthike, the pupils and villagers from the nearby Kathonzweni Market worked hard to fight the fire but their efforts were futile.

“The cause of the fire is still unknown but we suspect an electric fault,” said Muthike.

The dormitory accommodated around 300 pupils.

County fire fighters arrived on the scene at around 8.30am when the fire had already destroyed everything.

The area OCPD says investigations are underway.
