MACHAKOS, May 13 – Over 23,000 Ukambani leaders have urged Maendeleo Chap Chap party leader and Machakos Governor Dr Alfred Mutua to seek the presidency come the 2022 elections.

The leaders drawn from Machakos, Makueni, Kitui, Kwale and Taita Taveta counties also endorsed Mutua as the spokesperson of the Kamba nation.

“We as a community are tired of occupying position two in the leadership pecking order in previous governments. Mutua is our best bet for the presidency come 2022,” said former Machakos mayor, Timothy Kilonzo.

He said due to Mutua’s development record in the last four years as the Machakos Governor, he was best suited to become the community spokesman.

Speaking at the Machakos People’s Park during a leaders meeting, Mutua said his move to form the Maendeleo Chap Chap party was driven by the desire to offer people driven leadership.

“I accept with humility the endorsement from you leaders that I become the region’s presidential candidate come the 2022 polls,” Mutua said.

He added that he was ready to take over the mantle of speaking on behalf of the Kamba nation.

MPs Vincent Musyoka (Mwala ), Robert Mutemi (nominated) and hundreds of party aspirants were also present.

Mutua said he was committed to offering transformative leadership that will improve the lives of the electorate.
He said his party has attracted aspirants from across the country and was confident of clinching many elective seats.

Mutua hit out at the Wiper Party saying it had nothing to offer to the people of Ukambani.

“You have seen some of its top leaders including Senators Johnson Muthama and David Musila bolting out of the party. It shows the party’s fortunes are dwindling,” said Mutua.

He said Wiper had its time in the Ukambani region but the political moment now belongs to Chap Chap party.
“Some of Wiper leaders are even pushing their sons for top political jobs. They care very little about the rest of the people,”said Mutua.

He reiterated that his party was not affiliated to either Nasa or Jubilee but will support the re-election of President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Musyoka who will defend his seat on a Chap Chap party ticket urged Wiper party to brace for a bruising duel in Ukambani.

“A fish starts rotting from the head. Wiper leadership is rotten and that’s why it cannot get aspirants in many parts of Ukambani. It’s leaders cannot even agree on who to run for the seat of the governor in some counties, “said Musyoka.

Mutemi also tore into the Wiper party saying its leaders had run out of ideas.

“We quit the party due to its leaders who tormented us. Now we are in a good party known as Chap Chap,” said Mutemi.

Mzee Mailu from Makueni said Mutua was capable of taking over when President Uhuru Kenyatta’s term ends in 2022.
“The community has no other better placed leader to seek the top seat other than Mutua,” said Mailu.

The meeting was also by the Kamba Council of Elders to bless Mutua and where they also gifted him a bow and a quiver of arrows.
