NAIROBI, Kenya, Apr 11 – A resident of Nairobi has filed a case in court seeking orders to block the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission from clearing Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho from defending his seat.
Abdalla Juma argues in his urgent application that Joho’s academic credentials do not meet the threshold set by the Constitution for a gubernatorial aspirant.
Joho recently revealed that he scored D minus in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education examination, before proceeding to obtain a degree at a university in Uganda.
But the petitioner who filed the case Tuesday, claims that Joho’s degree was obtained fraudulently and should not therefore, be recognised by the electoral body.
