, NAIROBI, Kenya, Apr 18 – The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has now come out to clear the air over a leaked confidential National Super Alliance (NASA) technical team report that places its leader Raila Odinga as the best placed Opposition leader to challenge President Uhuru Kenyatta in the August 8 General Election.

ODM Secretary General Agnes Zani who stirred the storm by stating that the document was authentic now say she only made the pronouncement to caution her coalition partners and the public against deliberating the draft document.

Various Opposition figures had earlier dismissed the confidential report as being the work of intelligence services which had authored document with the hope of spurring a fallout within the Opposition outfit’s leadership.

Zani denied accusations from her fellow Secretary-Generals in the Amani National Congress, Wiper and Ford-Kenya that her party leaked the technical team report.

“So we had one report that actually leaked out and didn’t have all the information. What I was cautioning about is that let us very, very carefully not discuss that report in detail because it is not accurate and allow the principals to focus on the other report which is what forms part and parcel of the negotiations that are going to take place,” she told reporters at Orange House.

Amani National Congress leader Musalia Mudavadi, ODM’s Raila Odinga, Wiper’s Kalonzo Musyoka and Moses Wetang’ula of Ford-Kenya are all seeking the NASA presidential ticket.

The war of words started last week on Tuesday, when the ODM Secretary-General, who is a member of the NASA National Coordinating Committee said that there was indeed an agreement in the committee on the line-up, only for her Amani National Congress (ANC) counterpart Godfrey Osotsi to hit back, accusing the Orange party of acting in bad faith by leaking the report to the media.

According to Zani, the leaked report on the NASA line-up on the shared positions was accurate.

The report had said that the 12-man committee had settled on Odinga as the presidential flag-bearer, Wiper’s Musyoka as his running mate, Mudavadi as the Chief Minister, and Ford-Kenya’s Wetang’ula as Speaker of a House of his choice.

She further assured the Opposition outfit’s supporters that the principals will soon announce the presidential flag-bearer.

“We are looking forward to that retreat because I know Kenyans more than ever before are really looking forward to when we are going to have the NASA flag-bearer. We respect all the four Principals equally and we all know together they will be able to sit and give us a way forward,” Zani stated.
