NAIROBI, Kenya, Mar 7 – Laikipia North MP Mathew Lempurkel is in trouble with law enforcers yet again over the invasion of ranches in his constituency.
The MP was arrested on Tuesday afternoon just minutes before he was due to address a news conference over insecurity in Laikipia following invasion of ranches attacks, the latest being the killing of Tristan Voorspuy.
Lempurkel has in the past denied involvement in an attack at the 44,000 acre Suyian conservancy.
An estimated 10,000 pastoralists with 135,000 cattle have invaded ranches in Laikipia North in the last four months.
They have shot wildlife including elephants as well as stealing cattle and looting property.
The invasions of conservancies and farms over the last four months have been conducted by Samburu and Pokot from outside Laikipia.
