NAIROBI, Kenya, Mar 14 – Kenyan doctors finally ended their 100-day strike Tuesday after signing a return-to-work agreement with the government, which had threatened to sack all those who failed to return to work by last week.

“As the doctors union, we have concluded a return-to-work formula between the government and ourselves, bringing to an end the strike by doctors that has consumed the country for 100 days. It has been one of the most difficult industrial relations in the country,” Dr Ouma Oluga, the Secretary General of the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Union (KMPCU) said.

“I want to announce here that the doctors union has finally put to an end the strike,” he declared late Tuesday at a joint news conference with government officials and religious leaders who brokered the deal.

Peter Munya, the Chairman of the Council of Governors on his part said. “What you have witnessed is an agreement between the County Governments and doctors union bringing to an end the strike that has lasted 100 days.
