NAIROBI, Kenya, Mar 29 – The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has asked political parties to submit plans of their events on primaries to the Office of the Inspector General by the end of this month.

According to the IEBC, this will allow the police to secure the planned activities.

The party primaries are set for April 13 to 26 and parties are expected to submit the names of candidates by next week Thursday.

Starting Monday through to April 5, political parties are vetting and submitting to the electoral commission the names of candidates to participate in next month’s nominations.

Parties have received applications from members and will clear those to contest nominations for seats in the Senate, National Assembly, County Assemblies and Governor posts.

The electoral body’s timetable indicates that the body will be required to approve political party symbols and independent candidates’ symbols between May 8 and May 9.

The timetable further indicates that nominations for the presidential and senatorial elections will be conducted between May 28 and May 29.
