NANYUKI, Kenya, Mar 8 – Laikipia North MP Mathew Lempurkel has been charged for inciting youths to invade private farms in his constituency.

Lempurkel who was arrested on Tuesday was arraigned before the Nanyuki Chief Magistrate facing incitement to violence charges which he denied.

The magistrate declined a request by the prosecution to have him detained for two weeks to enable them complete investigations, saying there was no justification.

He was released on a Sh200,000 bond until March 23 when the case will be mentioned.

Laikipia has been tense in the recent weeks after youths invaded private farms, and started attacking owners – resulting in the killing of British rancher Tristan Voorspuy on Sunday.
