4 suspected drug barons re-arrested after release by Mombasa court

NAIROBI, Kenya, Mar 2 – Four suspected drug barons were on Thursday re-arrested by police officers shortly after they were released by a court in Shanzu, in Mombasa County.

Nabil Ahmed, Bakari Kali, Lilian Bernard and Stephen Mangira were detained by detectives as they left the courtroom and bundled into waiting cars.

Shanzu Principal Magistrate Diana Mochache had just ordered their release after the prosecution failed to charge them and instead requested for 21 more days for police to conclude their probe.

The four suspects who include two Tanzanians were found with Sh18 million in cash and while Swaleh was allegedly nabbed with heroin.

Their lawyers Cliff Ombeta and Jared Magolo have protested their re-arrest.
