Akasha sons charged over gun fight in Mombasa

Baktash Akasha, Ibrahim Akasha, Abdulsalam Akasha and Vijaygir Goswami were charged with the offence of affray/FILE

MOMBASA, Kenya, Jan 13 – Three sons of slain drug baron Ibrahim Akasha have been charged alongside an Indian national over a January 1 gun fight in Mombasa.

Baktash Akasha, Ibrahim Akasha, Abdulsalam Akasha and Vijaygir Goswami were charged with the offence of affray.

They pleaded not guilty before Mombasa Senior Principal Magistrate Henry Nyakwemba and were released on a cash bail at Sh20,000 each.

Hearing was set for April 1, 2017.

The three were involved in a gun fight with Mombasa tycoon Ali Punjani.

The fight occurred at a popular club in Nyali where the Akashas claim they were lured to, beaten by thugs and guns drawn on them.

The Akashas, Goswami and Gulam Hussein, are already facing another charge of trafficking Sh1 billion worth of heroin into the country in 2014.

The US had applied for the extradition of the four to stand trial on allegations of being part of an international drug trafficking ring.
