NAIROBI, Kenya, Dec 31 – Amani National Congress leader Musalia Mudavadi has been named the Spokesman for the Luhya community.
The initiative by trade unionist Francis Atwoli is expected to set the stage for fresh political re-alignments in western Kenya.
Residents from five counties in western Kenya voted for Mudavadi who garnered 39 per cent vote beating Wycliffe Oparanya and Ford Kenya Leader Moses Wetangula.
The move will see the Luhya community vote as a block.
In his acceptance speech, Mudavadi urged the Luhya community to take voting cards in readiness for the elections set for 2017.
He also took the time to campaign for the National Super Alliance (NASA), a political outfit of the Opposition that will face the mega Jubilee Party.
He criticized the Jubilee government saying it had failed citing mass corruption and tribalism exposed in the government of the day.
“The only way to save this country is through NASA,” he emphasized.
Mudavadi’s sentiments come at a time when NASA is still taking shape with negotiations taking centre stage.
