NAIROBI, Kenya, Dec 1 – Interviews for new IEBC Commissioners who will be responsible for next year’s General Election will start on Thursday.

A schedule released by the Selection Panel to appoint the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Commissioners shows that the interviews will run up to mid this month.

“Pursuant to Articles 88, 166(3) and 250 of the Constitution of Kenya, 2010, sections 5 and 6 of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission Act, 2011 and Paragraph 3 of the First Schedule thereto, and the First Schedule to the Election Laws (Amendment) Act, 2016, on 15th November, 2016, the Selection Panel for the Appointment of Commissioners of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission published the long list of all applicants for the position of Member of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission and their qualifications,” reads the gazette notice.

“The Selection Panel for the Appointment of Commissioners of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission publishes the names of applicants shortlisted for the position of Member of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission as well as their respective interview dates.”

First to face the panel Thursday morning will be Vincent Kimutai Kimosop, followed by Professor Johnson Masai and Kizito Okola.

Others to be interviewed on Thursday include Ismail Buro Hassan and Zephania Okeyo while the rest will face the panel from Monday.

The panel is yet to shortlist candidates for the IEBC Chairperson’s position after extending the application period.

Members of the public have been invited to make available, in writing, by memoranda, any information of interest with respect to the suitability of any of the short-listed candidates to serve as Member of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission.

Candidates nominated for approval by the National Assembly are required to appear before a committee of the National Assembly for vetting.

Applicants are supposed to carry along their current clearances from CID, HELB, KRA, EACC and any of the Credit Reference Bureaus.

All the interviews shall be conducted in public.
