NAIROBI, Kenya, Dec 8 – Five suspected thugs were Wednesday night gunned down in separate robbery incidents within Nairobi.

According to police, two of the suspects who were part of a four man gang that had tried to gain entry into a home along General Mathenge Road were shot.

During the incident, an officer who was injured was admitted to the Aga Khan hospital in stable condition.

One of the slain men was 51 years old and was wanted over a series of robberies in the city.

Police say another incident happened in Kayole where two suspected thugs were killed in a botched attack on an MPesa shop.

The fifth shooting happened along Juja Road where one suspect was shot dead in a botched mugging incident.

Police say they have upped the war on armed crime as part of efforts to secure the festive season.
