, TAITA-TAVETA, Kenya, Nov 18 — Deputy President William Ruto has said attempts by the opposition to link all development projects initiated by the Government to corruption was tantamount to sabotaging development of the country.
Ruto said for lack of an agenda to sell to the people, the opposition had resorted to opposing government projects meant to benefit the very people they purport to be speaking for so as to remain relevant in the political arena.
He was speaking Friday at Mwakishimba primary school grounds in Taita-Taveta county after inspecting several development projects in the county among them the Kishenyi dam in Wundanyi constituency.
Ruto said it was unfortunate that opposition leader Raila Odinga had vehemently opposed the construction of tunnels in Murang’a county and Itare dam in Bomet to supply water to residents of Nairobi and its environs and Nakuru respectively under the pretext of environmental concerns.
Members of Parliament who accompanied the Deputy President included Gideon Munga’ro (Kilifi North), Peter Shehe (Ganze) Isaac Mwaura (Nominated), Mustapha Iddi (Kilifi South), Naomi Shaban (Taveta) and former MP Danson Mungatana (Garsen)
The MPs said the opposition misled the people of coast region about land problems and marginalisation so as to get their vote. They said the Jubilee administration had issued titles to millions of Kenyans.
Also present were Governor John Mruttu, ODM MPs Thomas Mwadegu (Wundanyi) Andrew Mwadime (Mwatate) who said they will support the government in its development programmes.
