Passaris third time unlucky as court declines to overrule registrar on Harambee Dem Party

NAIROBI, Kenya, Nov 14 – Esther Passaris who has her eye on the Nairobi Governor’s seat on Monday lost a High Court appeal against the Registrar of Political Parties’ who declined to register her Harambee Democratic Party.

Passaris who first challenged the decision before the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal, was third time unlucky in the High Court to which she escalated the manner.

The court denied her application on the grounds that it lacked the jurisdiction to grant the orders Passaris sought.

“Despite the Constitution providing a right to a political party, the court lacks jurisdiction to order the Registrar of Political Parties to register a party.”
