KISUMU, Kenya, Nov 21 — Kisumu Senator Professor Anyang’ Nyong’o is opposed to the idea of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) conducting party primaries ahead of the elections.
He says in the recent past, IEBC acted as a tribunal that heard disputes arising from party nominations and wondered who will take up that role.
The Senator who has announced his intention to run for the county gubernatorial seat says IEBC should stick to conducting the national elections.
Speaking to the press in Seme constituency after a forum with the locals, Nyong’o said political parties should conduct their primaries and seek for redress at the electoral body in case of disputes.
He however made the case for state sponsored party primaries.
