Health CS Cleopa Mailu and his PS Nicholas Muraguri when they one after the other appeared before the Senate Health Committee on Tuesday/MOSES MUOKI

NAIROBI, Kenya, Nov 8 – Health Principal Secretary Dr Nicholas Muraguri has denied that he ever asked for the transfer of the auditor in his Ministry in October.

He has told the Senate Committee on Health that he only requested for a more senior and qualified auditor but it was up to the Treasury to take the final decision.

“My request was for a senior more qualified person. He could as well have stayed. It’s okay… I never asked for transfer. We were asking for senior (sic) person.”

Earlier, Health Cabinet Secretary Cleopa Mailu told the committee that Muraguri had requested the Treasury to transfer the auditor who was preparing the leaked report before he completed his work.

“I called my colleague in Treasury to ask why an auditor who came in April is being transferred? And of course my honoured colleague told me he receives a lot of requests and in this instance he had received a request from my Principal Secretary to transfer the auditor.”

Muraguri who is currently facing the committee says the audit questions raised do not translate to loss of money in the ministry since the audit report was after all incomplete.

He further says it was not possible for the IFMIS system to have been manipulated.
