, NAIROBI, Kenya, Nov 23 – The Machakos County Assembly was on Wednesday to debate a motion to impeach Governor Alfred Mutua.

The vote was however expected to face a quorum hitch given reports that 31 Members of the County Assembly had gone on a trip to Tanzania.

There are 59 MCAs in the County Assembly and an impeachment requires 39 members to sail through.

Motion mover Stephen Muthuka was however insistent that the motion will go before the House and said he had three sessions within which to make his case.

“I have seen some of them (MCAs) are back. If they’re so confident in Mutua, then why run away? They should have stayed and countered the motion point by point.”

Muthuka seeks to have Mutua impeached on abuse of office grounds.
