KISUMU, Kenya, Nov 10 — Two people have been confirmed dead after a four-storey building under construction collapsed in Kisii town.

Nyanza regional police coordinator Willy Lugusa says 33 others were pulled out alive, some with serious injuries.

He says those killed were part of the construction team.

Lugusa says the injured have been rushed to the hospital for treatment with rescue operation still underway.

The officer noted that what caused the collapse of the building has not been established.

Speaking to the press in Kisumu, Lugusa said a disaster team would continue digging through the rubble with the aim of pulling out those who might still be trapped.

He said the police were looking for the owner and contractor of the building to help with investigations into the collapse.

The injured are admitted at the Kisii Level 4 hospital while the bodies are preserved at the same facility.
