, NAIROBI, Kenya, Nov 30 – Police are pursuing gunmen linked to the death of 49 year-old Njuguna Maina in Gathiga village within Kiambu County.

The man was being driven by a friend, who is a taxi driver, when they were confronted by unknown assailants who were armed with pistols.

The driver was shot on both legs while Maina was shot on the chest.

He succumbed to the injury while undergoing treatment at MP Shah Hospital where the driver is undergoing treatment but remains critical.

A 9mm calibre was recovered at the scene of crime.

The thugs escaped on foot towards Gachie area, though no arrest has been made.

As the country heads to the festival period, crime seems to be increasing after a senior officer was killed in Kayole.

A police report seen by Capital FM News identified the slain officer as Superintendent Eston Ndwiga who is based at Police Headquarters.

The report says the officer was driving to his home in Mihang’o when he was attacked by the gunmen who shot at him and fled.

Police say the officer’s body was found inside his vehicle that was next to another abandoned by the thugs after the carjacking went awry.
