NAIROBI, Kenya, Oct 18 – A night guard was on Monday night killed by a stray bullet during a shootout between police and gunmen in Mandera.

The officers who were driving through the town were stopped by the gunmen who were disguised as women in buibuis but shortly after a shootout ensued.

The officers were driving a vehicle belonging to the area Governor Ali Roba, who was not present during the incident.

Police have since launched an operation to pursue the gunmen, who escaped towards the Kenya-Somalia border in the latest attack in the town.

Police are yet to establish the motive and investigations are trying to establish whether it was terror related or political.

According to police, the area often records increased crime as the country heads to an electioneering period.
